Grunge-Goth photoshoot with Sheila

A while ago I modeled for my friend Sheila, who's about to launch her first online store. She picked out some friends to model, and I am happy to be of the lucky few to model the many vintage and second hand jems she has collected over the years. I was so excited with all the clothes!!!!

It has been many a year since I modeled last, and I enjoy it immensely. I had lots of fun picking out the outfits with Sheila that represented my own style (or dream style?) and it made modeling the clothes a lot more sincere to me.

I am also happy the pictures are not heavily edited like with most alternative photography. The aim was to give the clothes an urban vibe, besides - heavily edited pieces of clothing online are not exactly believable. I loved everything I wore!

Photography and styling by Sheila Calavera:

There were some less dramatic gothy moments too. I am happy the outfits and pictures are different. I can never stick to a certain style and I am definitely more goofy than elegant.

That shirt though!

This one has to be my favorite:

That shirt though #2!

It got me thinking: from the entire photoshoot, what makes certain looks my favorite? Of course poses and the way my body/face looked have influenced the way I looked at the pictures, but some shots depict the way I want to be seen and want others to see me.

And I think - cool, this is me. Modeling has made me so happy; happy to see how much I've grown up.

Dystopain - a poerty book by d0ll (interview)

I love making interviews when I have the chance, so here is a recent one with d0ll - DJane, alt model and writer, who's collection of free verse poetry is now up online in Amazon Kindle books!

D0ll's direct and piercing poems are screaming with themes such as self image, romance and feeling anti-social in today's society, and self-made photographs from her travels cluster a search into one's self that is very personal and easily relatable.

All links and references are included bellow.

d0ll

M: When did you start writing poetry? What inspired you to?

D: I first started writing poems during my teenage years. I think it all started as a way to deal with emotions, experiences and the outside world. To this day, some of my writings are as if therapeutic in a way, helping me digest negative experiences and feelings and helping me remember the positive ones and all the shades in between. The other kind of poetry I write is more social or sometimes anti-social and written a little bit from a different perspective.

From Anxiety:

"Armor of inner safety falls on the floor
Attraction that leads to self-destruction
Astonishment that reaches you deeper
Angry voices screaming
At you
Aggression strikes you like a bell that tolls
A hand moves on the handle on the door..."

M: Your poems are very straightforward – we get to see the writer and become her. Were you inspired by any writers or poets in particular? (Or any other literature you are inspired by?)

D: There are certain writers and poets that I enjoy reading very much, especially classics – Honoré Balzac, Oscar Wilde, Vladimir Nabokov, Jane Austen. I like reading romantic poetry, but also modern and post-modern poetry, I enjoy horror stories, historic fiction and some (mainly older) detective fiction. But I’m open to a plenty of genres if I feel a book has something interesting tell me and is able to draw and keep my attention. As much as I love literature, I don’t see myself as influenced by any writers in particular. Although it might be a question that’s easier to answer for someone reading my poetry or short stories. I would say my inspiration from writing comes from what I observe around myself or from my experience, some of it from music, paintings, drawings and photographs that I have seen. I’ve noticed that surrealist and expressionist artworks tend to move me and influence me. A bit of my inspiration might also flow from post punk music ;)

M: Self-image is a recurring theme in the book, what has moved you to focus on it?

D: To me poetry is like a mirror reflecting the same person, the same picture or surroundings every time you look in it, but from various angles and in a changing light. So my poems, for a part, are as if my own mirror reflecting everything through my eyes only my viewpoint is slightly changing with time. But I have also written poems that attempt to look at myself from a different person’s perspective.

From The Sea Remains Silent:

"I stand here and wait
In hope that I will feel
Your ghost somewhere near
A last gust of the wind
A last touch on my skin
You don’t seem to come back
To say goodbye I fear"

M: Is writing a process that occurs easily to you, or do you need to be in a specific mindset in order to write?

D: Writing is a process that happens automatically, in my case, anyway. I sometimes get an urge to write and must write down what it is on my mind. Or if I cannot do that immediately, I try to hold the thought, the words in my mind and scribble it as soon as I can. I never “decide” to write, in fact sometimes I am tired and just want to sleep or do nothing, but my inspiration won’t wait. And many times, I write almost despite myself, drowning in a particular negative experience again for some time, in order to “process“ it into a poem.

M: Aside from writing you also DJane and model. These are all very different mediums of self-expression, what do you experience with each? Which do you connect with more?

D: These diverse mediums have become important parts of my life. I must say that writing is very often connected to negative emotions and experiences in my life – or realizing certain precious and positive moments after they’ve already passed. Still, I feel a sense of satisfaction and peace after finishing a poem or a short story, after expressing an emotion or a vision in its whole.
DJing is an activity that is linked to pleasure in my mind, the cheer of enjoying great music and letting others enjoy it with me, giving some joy also to those that are listening in a way. It’s also about always discovering new music that I enjoy or don’t enjoy. It is, like with many things, a process of continuous education.
Modelling is attractive to me, mostly because of cooperating with creative and talented people and combining our ideas and turning them into something new every time. I like seeing the results just as much as I enjoy the process of creation.

From Piece Me Together:

"I keep on writing this story
Which I can’t seem to finish
And the same events always occur
At the end of the day
When you look at me
Don’t say you’re sorry

The suffering is self-inflicted
It takes one girl to break
This body and mind
Don’t say you’re sorry

Just make sure
I’m not out of sight"

M: You chose English for your poetry. Why so, and are you planning on writing in other languages?

D: I didn’t choose English, I think English chose me. ;) It has been the most natural language to write in for me for years, despite not being my mother tongue. To this day, all poems and short stories I have written are in English with the exception of one poem, which is in Slovak. Maybe in the future I will write in Dutch as well. Depends on what will feel natural to me. Anyway, I think Dutch is a poetic language and I’m fluent in it, so I might as well write in it someday.

M: Anything else you would like to add?

D: Thank you for asking me your thoughtful questions. For anyone reading, I hope you enjoyed this introduction of the person responsible for writing the book Dystopain. There’s more to come in the not-so-far future. ;)

Style! It! Takes! pictures and end of semester!

After doing my exam yesterday I can finally sigh in relief and greet the summer vacation! Although the exam was only one of a few things that should have been off my back, I feel like more lazy than ever and all I want to do is either go for walks for hours on end or sit at home having quality internet times. You can guess which one of those I have been practicing lately.

Last saturday we had a lot of fun on the fashion and music event, Style! It! Takes!, which I introduced in this post.
I performed a pantomime/ theatrical piece for one of The Wings Of Desire´s songs, alongside the beautiful Lena who played her clarinet in all of the songs. I can sort of share the news with you that Boris´ project expands and we are now officially 3 people, and I am so excited about that!
Performing on stage (again frequently, as I have not done so since my baroque music days in high school) is a huge pleasure to me, which makes me more happy and powerful than playing music as a whole. I´ve always loved the stage, yet I feel a lot better "doing things" on it that attracts attention and gives people something to think about, rather than producing music.
There is no video unfortunately but a dear friend took some photos that look rather occvlt than what was actually happening, but who´s complaining, right?

Another few were taken by House Of Rough Arts:

Later on I had the honor to wear an extraordinary head piece by the designer Yan, who makes very unusual hats. I must admit that I am not a hat wearer at all, so it was new to me having to wear something on my head ;) the fun part was the installation process, and how the whole thing became a "part of me", hehe.

Yan installing the hat on me

And what did I need the hat for? To dance to PATOKAI and his synth punk music (Yan´s husband btw). I had a lot of fun being (again) on stage, it felt great and the music was a lot of fun :)

Lastly, the photographer of House Of Rough Arts was so nice to make some extra pics outside the venue, which turned out very lovely. I haven´t modeled for ages now, sure miss that!

wore high heels all night, switching to my combats was a privilege.
We had a great time at the event which was all in all very interesting and diverse: from a fashion show, burlesque pet-play performance and post punk music. Though being behind the curtain of the event we still had a blast, and I kind of wish being part of such festivities more often.
There will be probably more pics to come and announcments to make, since my summer (and early autumn) vacation is going to be pretty adventurous.

Have a wonderful almost weekend everyone!

Gothic Photo Shoots!!!

Today was really exciting! After Boris and I took a walk outside we decided to do a little photo shoot spontaneously, which led to some surprising results!

But first, I want to share here a picture from a recent photo shoot I did with a good friend. We did it in October, however I got the pics a while ago and I asked his permission to post one here :)
This was very deathrock-ish:

It is not edited yet, but I am very happy with the result!

And here's the pin up~19th century fun we had today:

And if you're extra nice, visit my DeviantArt

I am so proud of the picture I take and edit of Boris. His appearance and face features pretty much resemble  of those from past centuries. I can't be more happy to show a glimpse of that in a picture because you don't really notice it in real life [because Boris is rather a Slavic looking jewish gypsy romanian something something...].
I am also going to use some of the pictures for my portfolio for my fashion studies. Gonna have them printed in about A3, I certainly can't wait for that! I must say I love printing photographs that I find proud of or simply beautiful. I always have a feeling that digital files can be easily lost or unreachable, however real live photographs are so rare and special today!

A dream come true?

Ever since the 6th grade I've been dreaming of becoming a model. This decision was made after realizing that I am no good at anything regarding mathematics or science, and in general I had always trouble getting good grades at school. I did good at things I loved such as music, art, literature and english, but that came only later on when I went to high school [and then again I didn't have straight A's so to speak].

And from one hand, my mother always told me how I am difficult in educating, how lazy am I and I will never succeed and literary have no brains. This really was hard on me when I was in elementary school because I thought I wasn't good at anything.

But from the other hand, my mother always told me how beautiful I am, and what beautiful face and body and hands do I have and me being the prettiest of the entire class etc. etc...

I don't know how this influence me nowadays, I don't really care about the tastes of my mother, but the past month has been full of interesting photoshoots and others are soon to come.

And I wonder if one day I could really model seriously. I obviously don't have the weight and height to be a fashion model [and that world is so damn dirty anyway] but I do have the characteristics and ability to show something pretty and interesting using my body and face. So I can always try, no?

What I'm trying to say here, is that we always crave to fulfill our dreams, we set high obstacles to ourselves that we hope one day to achieve, we dream but sometimes we don't fight enough to make those dreams come true, or they being left as a mere fantasy and we forget about them only to remember them years later and regret we haven't done them when we had the time/age.

It's hard for me to believe that before my very eyes and without much effort my dream is, sort of, becoming true. I am modeling, and even if it's free and for small project that none professionals often take part in, and that even if I'll have a modlesmayhem account I won't find a real job in this because of me living in the country I live.
But I am still doing something, something that makes me look at a photo and makes me happy I am in this, I am modeling and making myself look the way I do, the way I want.
It is as if I am actually following "The Alchemist" after I read it.
I don't know how to describe it, but it simply makes me happy.

And I hope maybe, just maybe, when I'll go study fashion in Berlin as I plan, I will meet lots of people and get exposed, and then I could do what I am best at: being myself, and expressing myself and my visual beliefs  with makeup, clothing and my body.
I have no idea what will give me the highest pleasure out of the entire hobbies I have, but I a hoping that modeling would be it.

Arg! Stressing!

We got the keys of our new apartment yesterday, we got up early today to clean every corner of it today [was a very smart decision not to be lazy] and the next 3 days, or shall I say the next week, is going to be so stressful I don't even know what to expect.

We're gonna move all our stuff with my father's car tomorrow, leaving only our internet in the old apartment. Which leads us to the following question- when we'll move the internet? I need to call the costumer service and tell them we're moving, but this will happen only the day after tomorrow because it's fucking holiday and it is ruining all my plans. I also need to make sure the guys from costumer service could be able to send someone this week because we want to leave our old dump as soon as possible! Funny I actually work in the same company from which our internet comes from. Shitty company, don't ever go there :)

However the stress, I feel I am finally falling in love with our new place! It has 2 rooms when our old place had 1 and a half, and it has nice taps, floor, toilet and shower and the house is full of students just like us, with no weird neighbors and mold that could infect your entire apartment in the winter [it happened, it was horrid and made us terribly sick].

The only problem is that we can't keep an animal in the new place. That is, the other people that lived there told us that as long as the owner of the house has no idea about it, it's ok. So we're gonna have a secret mission moving our sphinx rat to our new apartment. He's gonna love it ^-^

Boris holds Misch. This is from his first days with us! Has grown rather large since then.

What also stressing is a "goffik fashion" photoshoot that was planned by a 16 year old girl on Thursday, which I'll be taking part in. Why? Because she invited me after looking at my recent photoshoot that I posted here, and it is also important for me as a makeup artist to participate as much as possible is different free of charge shit, as this. I really hope this won't be so amateur as it can be, I hope to get the best of it anyway.

Speaking of photoshoots, I have a new picture Palina sent me!

Yay I look... rather sad and the ugly shape of my face is actually visible here. And my eyes are too close.
But whatever, I like the colors of it, I look 30 years back!

Anywho that's all for today,
Must I say thanks a lot for the new readers, I couldn't have done it without Natalie's mentioning me in one of her recent posts [OMG!]. Thanks so much this means a lot!
So yeah, thank you everyone, I am going to sleep after a storm of doing and arranging.

Dark 80's Photoshoot!

I got some more pictures from the photoshoot I did with the beautiful Palina of Pneuma Sonata!
I still haven't got the Tilo Wolf outfit we did because the pictures are really heavy, but here's the other two looks we did!

You can also support this at my deviantart.

The other friday we had an awsome EBM party dedicated to Apoptygma Berzerk & VNV Nation due to their visit to Israel pretty soon. I have to admit that Boris and I detest these bands so much [fucking boring!] though we understand why people like them... but I was very surprised that the party was a whole lot of fun with friend I didn't see for a while and with some good music aside from AB and VNV. Thank God.

Also the upcoming 2 days we have the Jewish New Year in Israel, another holiday that takes no live interesting place in my heart hence jewish holidays mean absolutely nothing to me, not to mention my belief is totally different in everything surrounding me. The holiday follows by massive family meetings [I hate my family] and lots of food that's just dying to make me fat. I'll have to look at tons of thinspiration @ Tumblr [or at myself] to survive this.
Just kidding ;)

I remember I had plans for making several posts about And Also the Trees, the latest party we've been to, outfits of the day and a couple of others but I always end up submitting loads of pictures of myself and write less text.
This needs to be changed!
I'll try my best, and now I shall go and rest after waking up too early for work.

Sneak Peak on a recent photoshoot

The other day I finally had time for a photoshoot with the lovely Palina of ~Pneuma Sonata.

First of all, CHECK OUT HER ETSY!!!
It has amazing works, not to mention she is one of the few people in Israel who struggles to expand the Goth subculture more than it's possible, and she is a dear friend of mine. So support her or you'll die.

And without any further a due, here's the first picture I received from her today:

Model, Makeup, Hair & Styling: Nebel Finsternis Violet.

This amazing neckless is made by her, please please check her out!!!
I was so excited when I first saw this because this is probably the most fun photoshoot I ever had, we had such a nice atmosphere and I was really inspired by everything my hands layed on. I really hope to make stuff like this more in the future as long as I have the chance!!!

+

Funny how the photoshoot started as merely Post Punk and then progressed to something fashion-like and we ended as Nu-Goth XD
I fucking love Nu-Goth, I will make a post following this subject as soon as I'll get all the photos.
Oh, and I just want to note that none of us both got paid for this. It was just for fun ^^
Though looking at myself so fucking serious and sexy in this picture really tingles my fingers to open a Model Mayhem account. Being a model was my dream since 6th grade, when I found out I have no brains for almost anything but art [and music] so I was happy I at least had the body [and sometimes the face] for making pretty pictures! *forever alone*

Just kidding. Not everything is that serious.
But And Also The Trees and god damn serious:

I am in love with this band. Will write a post about them as well!!

Stay tuned for more photos!
